Principal’s Report

Dear East Ayr State School
As we approach the Easter holiday, I would like to take a moment to extend my warmest wishes to each of you. This time of year offers a wonderful opportunity for reflection, renewal, and time spent with loved ones.
Whether you're spending these days relaxing, enjoying family traditions, or taking a well-deserved break, I hope you find time to rest and rejuvenate. Our students have worked hard this term, and it's important to take a step back to appreciate the growth and achievements we’ve seen together.
I look forward to seeing everyone return with renewed energy and enthusiasm for the remainder of the school year. Until then, I wish you all a safe, peaceful, and joyful holiday.

P & C News
On Monday 24 March P&C AGM was held. Thank you to everyone who attended. All executive positions were filled. Our 2025 team is: President – Corryn Innes; Vice President – Ned Bonato; Treasurer – Stacy Bonato; Assistant Treasurer – Bree Palmer; and Secretary – Emily Christie. Thank you again to our outgoing secretary, Kiera Durrant, after 11 years volunteering on the committee. We are very appreciative of time and support of our committee and the school. General memberships are still open, you can become a member at any stage throughout the year. Joining the P&C is a great way to be active in your child’ education and get to know what is going on within the school, as well as be a part of a great team. We have a great team of members and we look forward to a great year ahead.
Next term, the Mother’s Day Stall and the school disco are the 2 fundraising events held. Information about these events will be available closer to the dates. We will require parent assistance at both events, please keep this in mind.
There is a change to the P&C meeting day due to the commitments to committee members. Moving forward, meetings will be held on Tuesdays and at 6:30pm. The next meeting will be Tuesday 6th May, 6:30pm in the library.

NQ Sport Representatives
Congratulations to the following East Ayr State School students who were selected in NQ teams:
Lewis – Swimming
Allie – Basketball
Jacques - Hockey
Hockey
Well done to Kip, Logan, Jacques and Marshall for representing the Burdekin at the Northern Hockey Trials. Special congratulations to Jacques who made the Northern team and he will represent our Region at the Queensland titles. Here is some feedback we received from one of the parents of these students – “Kip, Logan, Jacques and Marshall represented East Ayr exceptionally. Very well behaved, played to the best of their ability, took direction from everyone, sat patiently, supported and cheered for the others when they were not required to play, showed tremendous sportsmanship, made new friends with children from other schools playing handball on their lunch break. As a parent I feel justified in choosing to send my children to East Ayr to help shape them into model citizens. Thank you very much for sending children to such events, I received plenty positive comments from other parents and teachers throughout the day on how the Burdekin students conducted themselves throughout the day”. It is great to hear that our healthy and confident students are representing our school in such a manner.

Wellbeing
Well done to all the families who have supported their students doing Let Grow projects. If we want healthy and confident young people, we need to provide them with opportunities to do things independently. This might mean they fail. Fail stands for “First Attempt In Learning” and we only develop resilience if we are provided with difficult tasks. When we fail, we don’t shatter, we actually become more resilient. We become fragile when we are never given a challenge. The school holidays is a great time to grow your students independent. What can you let go of during these holidays? Have fun.
Chappy’s Chat
April Fool!!
I love Brekky Club!
Brekky Club is a time of happiness and friendship, of good manners and yummy food.
Needless to say, I was shocked today when one of my best student workers, said to me:
“Chappy John, I HATE Brekky Club!”
I was speechless…. too stunned to say anything. It was like the bottom had fallen out of my bucket!
Then came a smile, a little giggle: “Tricked you Chappy!”
Boy oh boy…. was I sucked in…. What makes me even more of a goose, was that another of my best Brekky Club workers had assaulted me earlier with the old: “Pinch and a Punch for the First of the Month!” gag – ouch! You would have thought I would have wised up, but I guess I’m still just me.
One thing I do know is that April is also the season of Easter, when Jesus was crucified, died and was buried on Good Friday; then on Easter Sunday, he rose from the dead in new life. The wonderful thing in that is, Jesus offers that defeat of death to you and me as Christians.
No matter what your faith is, I pray these Easter holidays will be a time you show your love for your family and friends. That makes everyone feel good, and that is how life should be.
Chappy John
